Classic Chunky Scarf
The Case for Simple
Basic knitting patterns are underrated. Not only are they a necessity in the life of beginners to knitting, but I’d argue that they’re crucial for even the most experienced knitter.
There’s something therapeutic about a design that doesn’t require constant checking of instructions. A pattern that allows you to just pick up your knitting and get to work. Mindlessly stitching away.
There is no stitch simpler in knitting than the garter stitch. It’s comprised of solely knit stitches and nothing more. The only additional skills needed are casting on and casting off, making anything with garter stitch the perfect project for beginners (or more experienced knitters looking for a mindless make).
Basic Designs Made Even Simpler
Now that I’ve made my case for simple knitting projects, let me introduce you to my favorite hack for completing a knitting project quickly. Quickly being a relative term, of course.
Chunky yarn is a gift and blessing straight from the Lord himself. And if you, like me, struggle to keep your attention on longer projects might I introduce you to Super Bulky Yarn (Weight 6).
My favorite is Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick, which I’ve used for 10+ years. It’s machine washable, soft, holds up over time, features modern colors, and it knits up quickly.
Combine this Super Bulky yarn with some large needles - I recommend US 13 (9mm) or US 15 (10mm)

Cast on desired number of stitches. I did 30 stitches for a wide scarf.
Knit every row until scarf reaches your desired length.
To finish: Cast off and add fringe to your scarf (or seam the edges together for an infinity scarf style if you prefer!)
I hope these simple instructions bless your knitting journey and help you recognize that knitting trendy, modern, practical pieces can be as easy as casting on some knit stitches and keeping to the basics!
Happy Knitting,
